In Florida, we actually have what’s called a no-fault state and what that means is there’s actually no reason needed in order to get a divorce. Other states you actually have to demonstrate incompatibility or going outside of the marriage but in Florida you really don’t need any of those things. Once one of the parties no longer wants to be married, then you’re able to ask the court to dissolve your marriage.
It can go one of two ways; uncontested and contested. It doesn’t mean that your spouse is contesting the fact that you’re getting a divorce but it does mean that the spouse is contesting how the divorce is going to be carried out.
